The ACCC ejournal first saw light of day in 1979. As the TPC bulletin, it was an ‘experimental bulletin’ that brought together the ‘more important developments in trade practices and consumer protection’.
Now, after more than 30 years, several name changes and production in various forms, it’s time for us to farewell the ACCC ejournal.
Despite cosmetic changes (shown here are the first issues of the TPC bulletin (top) and the ACCC ejournal, dated 1979 and 1996 respectively), the ejournal’s content range has generally remained constant, with topical coverage of the ACCC’s core business areas.
The internet has overtaken the ejournal’s role of gathering widely dispersed information into one publication.
Improved website design—not just of the ACCC website but also of other government websites dealing with related material—means that finding information online is now easier and faster.
The ejournal is essentially duplicating information provided in more detail and greater depth elsewhere on our website and on others.
This issue of the ACCC ejournal is the last—we wish to thank all our subscribers for their interest in the ejournal over the years. The following links will take you to information previously summarised in the ejournal.
ACCC
ACCCount—a quarterly publication reporting on activities of the ACCC and the Australian Energy Regulator.
ACCC annual reports—the yearly report of activities of the ACCC and the Australian Energy Regulator.
ACCC update—a quarterly magazine that examines the broad range of issues the ACCC deals with, from regulation to consumer protection and small business. Each issue runs in‑depth stories on current priority areas for the ACCC.
Australian Energy Regulator (part of the ACCC)—regulates the wholesale electricity market and is responsible for the economic regulation of the electricity transmission and distribution networks in the national electricity market. The AER is also responsible for the economic regulation of gas transmission and distribution networks and enforcing the national gas law and national gas rules in all jurisdictions except Western Australia.
Consumer & business directory—allows you to search for the contact details of over 1600 private, community and government organisations offering consumer and business complaint-handling services (including industry associations, businesses, government agencies and independent mediation services).
Media centre—contains all ACCC news releases, speeches, events and conferences, along with photographs and biographies of the ACCC Chairman and commissioners.
Public registers—under the Trade Practices Act 1974 the ACCC must create and maintain public registers to ensure that its decision-making processes are transparent and accountable. The ACCC also maintains several voluntary public registers because it considers that information should be available to the public.
