Commenced public review 24th June 2009
Date completed 17th July 2009
Market definition
The ACCC did not consider it necessary to reach a definitive view on market definition, since the results of the competition analysis would remain unchanged regardless of the precise market definition adopted.
Competition analysis
The ACCC considered that the proposed acquisition was unlikely to substantially lessen competition in any relevant market. In forming this view, the ACCC noted that by establishing a new supermarket in Hunter's Hill, Woolworths would be adding to the number of supermarkets competing in the local area, and would face competition from a number of existing competitors in that area.
