Data on Australian petrol prices is available from a number of sources on the internet. These are listed below.
Australia-wide
The Motormouth website provides current petrol prices by postcode, suburb or map region in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra, Darwin, Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Prices are sourced from major oil retailers, observation of priceboards and service stations that directly update their prices on www.mypriceboard.com for use on MotorMouth. Prices are updated once a day at a minimum with the majority of sites updated twice daily. MotorMouth also provides prices for 148 country towns updated each day. Free email alerts on fuel prices are available.
Users of iGoogle may wish to add the Google Petrol Price Tracker to their iGoogle home page which sources pricing data from Motormouth.
The Australian Institute of Petroleum (AIP) has average weekly retail prices for unleaded petrol (ULP) at 174 metropolitan and regional locations across Australia (where prices are available), based on market data supplied by MotorMouth (see www.motormouth.com.au). There are also charts showing movements in the average weekly price for the past 12 weeks in these towns.
The Australian Automobile Association provides monthly data on petrol prices in 98 country towns throughout Australia. Historical data is available back to April 1998.
New South Wales
The National Roads and Motoring Association provides the current day average, high and low price around Sydney as well as average prices for a selection towns in New South Wales.
Victoria
The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria provides the current day average, high and low price around Melbourne as well as average prices for a selection towns in Victoria.
Queensland
The Royal Automobile Club of Queensland provides monthly data on 21 country towns and regions in Queensland. The data is available for the previous nine months.
Western Australia
The Western Australian FuelWatch website provides information on petrol, diesel and automotive LPG prices for all Perth and Mandurah service stations, as well as for 53 regional locations. Additional information includes the average price in major country towns and regions, a list of lowest prices per region and a Trip Planner to assess the cheapest prices along a route.
South Australia
South Australia's Royal Automobile Association provides current cheapest petrol prices around Adelaide as well as average daily prices and average weekly prices for 17 towns in South Australia.
Tasmania
The Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania provides daily petrol price information around Hobart each week day at 4pm. Prices around other parts of Tasmania should be available soon.
Northern Territory
The Northern Territory Fuelwatch website provides average weekly petrol prices for four country towns (Alice Springs, Katherine, Nhulunbuy and Tennant Creek) as well as Darwin/Palmerston. A chart showing the movements in unleaded petrol prices in these towns for the last fifteen weeks is also included.
