Debt collection practices in Australia: summary of stakeholder consultation summarises the major issues identified during information-gathering activities undertaken by both the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) in 2008.

Further guidance on the obligations of organisations engaged in debt collection activity is contained in Debt collection guideline: for collectors and creditors.

Consumers experiencing difficulties repaying debts or dealing with debt collectors should refer to the booklet Dealing with debt: your rights and responsibilities for guidance.
