Market definition
For the purposes of assessing this acquisition, the ACCC considered the following markets: the market for the provision of wharf cartage services within Melbourne; the market for the provision of warehousing services in Melbourne; and the market for the supply of integrated logistics services.
Competition analysis
The ACCC considered that the acquisition was unlikely to substantially lessen competition in the relevant markets. The ACCC considered that there are a number of alternative suppliers of wharf cartage and warehousing services which would continue to provide a competitive constraint on Toll. The ACCC considered that there are many competitors who supply only wharf cartage and warehousing services or freight forwarding services suggesting that suppliers do not need to offer a complete integrated logistics service in order to compete or enter the market.
