Market definition
For the purposes of this competition assessment, the relevant markets considered were for the distribution of automotive parts and accessories via resellers in the Alice Springs, Darwin and Katherine regions.
Competition analysis
The ACCC formed the view that the acquisition was unlikely to substantially lessen competition in any of the relevant markets. In particular, the ACCC considered that competition concerns were unlikely to arise in the Alice Springs region due to the lack of competitive overlap between Repco and Coventry. As regards the Darwin and Katherine regions, where there was some overlap, the ACCC considered that the transaction was unlikely to substantially lessen competition due to the constraints imposed by existing competitors as well as relatively low barriers to entry.
