The Ministry of Industry, Small & Medium Enterprises, Commerce & Cooperatives The main activities of this Ministry revolve around formulating and implementing policies for the import and export of goods and services, weights & measures, price control and protection of consumers and the procurement of essential commodities through the State Trading Corporation; issuing of bakery licences, approval for the importation of bakery equipment and for the holding of trade fairs. A Market Analysis & Monitoring Unit has recently been set up with a view to collecting and providing relevant data, information and analysis on price movements of selected products. It also advises government on policies to ensure that competitive prices prevail on product markets and that consumer welfare is well protected. The Ministry is also responsible for Consumer Protection. The two responsibilities of the consumer protection unit, are consumer education and enforcement of consumer laws in Mauritius.
