The Competition Commission (CC) is an independent public body in the UK which conducts in-depth inquiries into mergers, markets and the regulation of the major regulated industries. The CC helps to ensure healthy competition between companies in the UK for the benefit of companies, customers and the economy. Inquiries are always initiated following a concern referred to us by another authority such as the UK Office of Fair Trading. It also investigates issues referred to it by the sector regulators for communications, gas and electricity, water, rail, airports, postal services, or by the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
