The Department of Communities is a Queensland Government agency committed to promoting and supporting excellence in the delivery of human services to Queenslanders. The Department of Communities is a human services agency that performs a range of statutory, regulatory and support functions to foster strong Queensland communities. The key functions of the Department include:providing service to the community and developing policy on community engagement, volunteering, crime prevention, family and domestic violence prevention, family support, individual support (including gambling support and management of public intoxication), homelessness, disaster recovery and support to non-government organisations, supporting and monitoring the provision of quality services for children and families, promoting the interests of seniors so they are valued and active members of Queensland communities, supporting young people to achieve their full potential and providing quality youth justice services, facilitating easier access to responsive government services and information.
