Who to contact when you have a franchising dispute

If you are involved in a franchising dispute, you should first try to work it out with the other party. There are also people you can contact for advice. You may wish to speak with your legal adviser, accountant, business adviser or your industry association on what is your best option to address your dispute.

You should also consider contacting the Office of the Franchising Mediation Adviser (OFMA) on 1800 150 667 (free-call within Australia) or (02) 9267 0167. The OFMA is appointed under the Franchising Code to provide mediation services to parties in franchising disputes. Further information is available on the OFMA's website.

You may also wish to call our small business helpline on 1300 302 021 if you have information in relation to a possible breach of the code and/or the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (the Act). The ACCC may consider taking enforcement action when it believes there has been a breach of the code and/or the Act and when there is a public interest in doing so. If the ACCC believes that your dispute is of a private contractual nature, it will recommend that you try mediation or seek independent legal advice.
