Mobile phones

Using your mobile phone and otherwireless devices to buy products and services is becoming a part of everyday life. While using your phone in this way can be fun and convenient, learn how to avoid the risks.

The technology known as '3G' refers to the ‘third generation’ digital mobile phone network. The 3G network allows information to be transferred many times faster than on previous networks.

Downloading extras such as ring tones and games can be a fun part of owning a mobile phone. We receive many complaints from consumers who have not understood what they have actually paid for until the mobile phone bill arrives or their phone credit disappears at a very fast rate.

As a consumer, you have rights and obligations in relation to any contract that you enter into, including for a mobile phone service. If you take time to think about your usage patterns and what you can afford, it will be easier for you to choose a service that best meets your needs. Make sure you understand your contract before you sign it.

You have rights that apply to all your purchases, including mobile phone handsets. If your phone handset doesn't do what it is supposed to do or does not meet a level of quality and performance appropriate to the phone's price, then your rights as a consumer may not have been met.
