Market definition
The ACCC considered two relevant markets:
- a national market for the sale of large scale GIS software to the natural resources sector and
- a national market for the sale of medium scale GIS software to the natural resources sector.
Competition analysis
On 23 January 2008, the ACCC formed the view that the proposed acquisition was unlikely to substantially lessen competition in the relevant markets. In reaching this view, the ACCC considered that the merged entity would continue to be constrained by the presence of large alternative suppliers of GIS software to the natural resources sector.
