The ACCC has received reports that local newspapers and on-line classifieds are once again being targeted.
Consumers have been caught out, paying via wire transfer for a puppy that never arrives.
Protect yourself from these scams
Too good to be true prices for pedigree pups call for caution.
Get advice regarding the animal’s details provided in the ad from someone in the industry such as breeders’/kennel associations, a vet or your local pet shop.
Avoid any arrangement with a stranger that asks for upfront payment via money order, wire transfer or money gram.
Do an internet search using the exact wording in the ad – many well known scams can be found this way.
