Market definition
The ACCC considered the proposed acquisition in the context of the national market for the manufacture and supply of polyethylene pipeline systems (including pipes and fittings).
Competition analysis
On 10 August 2007, the ACCC decided to not intervene in the proposed acquisition.
The ACCC concluded that, in relation to the supply of polyethylene pipeline systems, it was likely Iplex would continue to face competitive constraints from alternative suppliers of pipeline products and new entrants post-acquisition. Accordingly, the ACCC considered that the proposed acquisition was unlikely to substantially lessen competition for the manufacture and supply of polyethylene pipeline systems.
