Advisory and competition notices—broadband pricing

In February 2004 the ACCC issued an advisory notice to Telstra relating to its pricing of broadband internet services. The advisory notice warned Telstra to change its conduct to avoid contravention of the competition rule.

On 19 March 2004 the ACCC issued a Part A competition notice to Telstra under subs. 151AKA(2) of the Trade Practices Act 1974. The ACCC issued the notice because it believed that Telstra had engaged, or was engaging, in at least one instance of anti-competitive conduct relating to its wholesale pricing of broadband internet services.

On 21 February 2005 the ACCC announced that it had revoked the Part A competition notice that it had issued to Telstra. The resolution of the matter included a rebate to affected wholesale customers. In addition, an arrangement requiring Telstra to advise the ACCC of future price changes for broadband services was put in place.
