Understanding petrol pricing in Australia

The ACCC plays an informal monitoring role in petrol, diesel and automotive LPG prices. It does not, however, have the power to regulate wholesale or retail petrol prices in Australia. This booklet focuses on petrol pricing because it is more volatile than pricing for diesel or automotive LPG.
