Proposed divestiture by Macquarie Bank of seven commercial radio licences acquired from DMG Regional Radio and RG Capital Radio

Summary
The divestiture by Macquarie Bank of seven commercial radio licences acquired from DMG Regional Radio and RG Capital Radio.
File number C2004/1127
Outcome Not Opposed
Date completed 31st August 2005
Market definition
The relevant markets were considered to be the local markets for advertising on commercial broadcast radio within the Albury, Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville radio licence areas.
Competition analysis
Macquarie proposed that Prime Television Limited acquire the radio stations in Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville and that ACE Radio Broadcasters Pty Ltd acquire the radio station in Albury.

The Commission decided not to object to the proposed purchasers on the basis that they each:
- have the ability to conduct a Commercial Radio Broadcasting Station business;
- are likely to be a vigorous and effective competitor in the relevant market; and
- are sufficiently independent from Macquarie and their Related Bodies Corporate, directors and managers.
