This undertaking varies the undertaking originally given by Reader's Digest (Australia) Pty Limited on 17 December 2003 and accepted by the ACCC on 19 December 2003.
Reader's Digest has admitted that it engaged in conduct that constituted contraventions of sections 52, 53(g) and 64 of the Trade Practices Act 1974. Specifically, it demanded payment for unsolicited mail order products when it did not have reasonable cause to believe that it was entitled to payment and falsely represented that it had a right to payment for those goods.
