Scams Awareness Month (ScAM)

During February members of the International Consumer Protection Enforcement Network (ICPEN) and the ACCC conducted a scams awareness campaign designed to educate consumers, providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to recognise, report and stop scams.

During the Scams Awareness Month the ACCC produced special editions of the Consumer Express and Infolink publications. These publications provide information to consumers and businesses on different types of scams and contain tips on how to avoid being caught.

Lottery scams, pyramid schemes, phishing scams and Nigerian scams are among the long list of fraudulent activities which consumers and businesses have been warned to watch out for.

The campaign culminated in a worldwide internet sweep, coordinated across ICPEN member countries by the ACCC, designed to identify current scams that use spam to target victims.
