Domain name invoices

Published: 8 Mar, 2005

In recent years some companies have used invoice-like letters or faxes to facilitate their domain names registration businesses. More recently these letters have offered variations on a domain name such as “.net.au” instead of “.com.au” or “.com” instead of “.com.au”.

If you have received such a letter and you are not sure if a payment should be made you may wish to consider the following advice:

  • Check your current domain name registration details, in particular noting the exact domain name and the expiry date.
  • Read the offer in the letter carefully again noting the details of the offer and the exact domain name/s as written in the letter.
  • If it is a new domain name being offered and you would like to register it, consider shopping around for the best deal as the domain name registration market is quite competitive.

If you have paid for a service you did not want contact the trader first. If you are not happy with the response then contact the ACCC Infocentre on 1300 302 502.
