Competition analysis
The ACCC decided not to oppose the Orica's acquisition of Huntsman on the grounds that:
* Huntsman only supplies phenolic resins (as opposed to amino resins) which constitute less than 10% of the formaldehyde based resins market;
* Borden and Orica will remain strong competitors in the supply of amino and phenolic resins, and Woodchem and Dynea will also remain competitors in the supply of amino resins; and
* Bariers to entry do not appear to be high in the industry, as evidenced by the successful entry of Woodchem in 2000.
