ICPEN meetings looks at modem hijacking and internet and mobile phone spam
Children and mobile commerce and internet and mobile phone spam were just a couple of the topics covered at a recent International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) meeting.
The ACCC attended the meeting in London from 6–11 October, which also included an ICPEN Best Practices in Cross Border Investigations Course.
Other topics covered included modem hijacking, OECD fraud guidelines, eConsumer.gov, disadvantaged and vulnerable consumers, and cross border lottery scams.
The ICPEN Best Practices in Cross Border Investigations Course is an initiative of the 2002 Australian presidency of ICPEN. The course aimed to increase the skills of people from member agencies which assist other agencies in cross border investigations, and to widen the ICPEN network.
Issues discussed during the course included investigating cross border internet fraud, capturing internet evidence, investigating spam cases, and public awareness, education and prevention campaigns.
