Ways to make a complaint or inquiry

Phone complaints and inquiries

The ACCC information centre is available to explain your rights and obligations under the legislation, and how we are likely to react to particular business practices. This service is available to both business and consumers and is free of charge.

The Infocentre can be contacted by calling 1300 302 502 (Australian callers)
or + 612 6243 1305 (overseas callers).

Staff are available during office hours (9am-5pm Mon-Fri Canberra time).
If they cannot help they will usually suggest the appropriate government department or agency to contact or other options that may be available.

We cannot give legal advice and recommend that a solicitor is the most appropriate person from whom to seek such advice.

Users who are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment can phone through the National Relay Service:

    • TTY users phone 133 677 then ask for 1300 302 502
    • Speak and Listen users phone 1300 555 727 and ask for 1300 302 502
    • Internet relay users connect to the NRS (see www.relayservice.com.au) and ask for 1300 302 502.

Freedom of information

Under section 15 of the FOI Act, any person is entitled to apply for access to documents in the Commission's possession.

A request under the FOI Act must be in writing, be accompanied by a $30 application fee and provide an address in Australia to which notices can be sent.

Requests may be submitted by email but a request does not become valid until an application fee of $30 is received although in certain cases the fee may not be required or can be remitted.

To enable the Commission to identify the relevant document/s give as much information as possible about the document/s you are seeking. There are grounds on which access to documents may be refused.

Should you proceed with your request, additional charges are generally payable in relation to time spent in searching for and retrieving documents, decision-making time, photocopying, postage etc.

If you need further information or wish to lodge a formal request for documents under the FOI Act, please contact the FOI Officer:
