Cosmetics and toiletries—ingredient labelling

This is a mandatory consumer product information standard under the Trade Practices Act.

For industry—manufacturers, importers, wholesalers/distributors and retailers—compliance with the product information standard is mandatory, that is, they must ensure their products comply with the ingredient labelling requirements.

Generally, the requirements allow consumers to:

  • identify ingredients to which they may be allergic or which may cause an adverse reaction
  • compare products offering similar ingredients.
