Care labelling—clothing and textile products

This is a mandatory consumer product information standard under the Trade Practices Act.

For industry—manufacturers, importers, wholesalers/distributors and retailers—compliance with the product information standard is mandatory, that is, they must ensure their products comply with the care labelling requirements.

Generally, the requirements provide for:

  • consumers to be aware of the method and cost of caring for goods when they purchase them
  • drycleaners and launderers to select the correct care treatments
  • correct care to increase the useful life of articles and to prevent damage from improper care.
