Nissan to compensate owners of 1998 Diesel Patrol

Consumers who bought the 1998 Nissan Diesel Patrol up to 15 November 1998 will get a compensation package from Nissan Australia for misrepresentations about the fuel capacity of the sub tank of their vehicle.

"The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has been investigating allegations of misleading advertising for the 1998 Nissan Patrol," ACCC Chairman, Professor Allan Fels, said today. "The advertising brochure and the owner’s manual had indicated the fuel capacity of the sub-tank to be 40 litres. In actual fact the fuel capacity of the sub-tank for the diesel models was found to be on average only 32.01 litres.

"As from 16 November 1998 all advertising and owners manuals have been corrected to reflect the true capacity of the fuel sub tanks.

"In a settlement agreement negotiated with the ACCC, Nissan will write to all owners who had purchased the 1998 Diesel Patrol prior to that date offering them a compensation package of:

  • one year extended roadside assistance;
  • a free service at 50,000 kms;
  • and a free service at 60,000 kms.

"Any owners who have not been contacted by Nissan by May 1999 should contact the NISSANCARE Centre on 1800 035 035.

"The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission takes a tough stance on companies which are seen to be misleading consumers in the promotion of their goods and services," he said.
