The Transport and General Prices Oversight Branch has a variety of functions in relation to the transport industry under Part VIIA (Prices Surveillance & Monitoring) and Part X (international liner cargo shipping) of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (known as the Competition and Consumer Act from 1 January 2011).
Specifically, this includes:
Under Part VIIA: the monitoring of container stevedoring prices, costs and profits.
The Branch also produces regulatory reports on price monitoring, financial reporting and quality of service monitoring at five major Australian airports. For more information on the ACCC’s role in relation to aviation and airports, see Aviation & airports.
Under Part X: investigating complaints in relation to international liner cargo shipping conference agreements.
