What we do

The role of the ACCC

Airports

The ACCC is responsible for administering a number of measures under the Airports Act 1996 and the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (formerly under the Prices Surveillance Act 1983). These responsibilities include prices monitoring, quality of service monitoring and collecting and publishing information on financial performance.

Since 1 July 2002 the only airport services subject to prices notification and price caps are regional air services at Sydney Airport.

Airservices

The ACCC is also responsible for assessing proposals by Airservices Australia to increase charges for terminal and en route navigation services as well as aviation rescue and fire fighting services.

Airlines

The ACCC has no specific role in relation to airlines. However, the general provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 apply to airlines. The ACCC has been involved in a number of cases concerning airlines and the Act.  Background information may be found on this website by using the search facility for specific topics.
