Internet auctions: what you should know before you bid or sell

A thumbnail of the cover of this publication

Date published: 31st August 2000

Brochure, A4: Buying and selling at internet auctions is accessible and convenient, but the anonymity of sellers has made them a vehicle for one of the most pervasive forms of fraudulence on the internet. The most common offences are sellers failing to deliver advertised goods, delivering goods far less valuable than they have advertised, failing to deliver in a timely way, and failing to disclose all the relevant information about the product or terms of sale. This publication suggests ways in which buyers may minimise their vulnerability to fraudulent sellers, and outlines steps sellers can take to ensure they comply with their obligations and understand legal liability.
