Description
VCAT deals with a variety of disputes including small claims/consumer matters. The claim limit is $10,000 unless both parties agree in writing to increase the limit. It also deals with disputes between people and government about land valuation, licences to carry on businesses including travel agents, motor car traders and others, planning, state taxation & many other government decisions such as Transport Accident Commission decisions and freedom of information issues. The cost of lodging a claim varies depending on which Act it relates to. If the claim is under the Fair Trading Act there is no charge, whilst claims under other Acts can cost $25.00.
