The Commonwealth Ombudsman is also the Tax Ombudsman. The Ombudsman has a Special Tax Adviser on Taxation who heads a specialist team. The Ombudsman can investigate the fairness of the actions and procedures of the Australia Tax Office (ATO). Individuals, businesses, groups or organisations that have been disadvantaged by the ATO can make a complaint. Complaints can be made by telephone, in person or in writing. The service is free, and investigations are impartial, informal and private.
