The Commonwealth Ombudsman assists the Australian community by resolving complaints and fostering good government administration.
The Commonwealth Ombudsmans office handles complaints and unresolved disputes with federal government departments and agencies, but not government enteprises such as Qantas or the Commonwealth bank. The Commonwealth Ombudsman is also the Defence Force Ombudsman, the Immigration Ombudsman, the Law Enforcement Ombudsman, the Postal Industry Ombudsman and the Taxation Ombudsman. Ombudsman services are provided free of charge to complainants.
