Food Standards Australia New Zealand's role is, in association with others, to protect the health and safety of people in Australia and New Zealand through the maintenance of a safe and nutritious food supply.
FSANZ is a bi-national food regulator established by the Australian Government to develop and review regulatory standards for the sale of food in Australia and New Zealand. FSANZ’s objectives and functions are set out in the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991. The arrangements with New Zealand to establish a joint food standards system came into effect in 1996 under an agreement known as the Treaty.
