Department of Commerce (formerly Department of Consumer and Employment Protection [DOCEP]), WA
Description
The formation of the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DOCEP) on 1 July 2001 brought together three Western Australian Government agencies: the Ministry of Fair Trading, the Department of Productivity & Labour Relations and WorkSafe Western Australia. The Department has seven divisions: Consumer Protection, Energy Safety, Labour Relations, Resources Safety - formerly the Safety and Health Division of the Department of Industry and Resources - WorkSafe, Corporate Services and the Office of the Director General. DOCEP’s purpose is to create an employment and trading environment that provides for the growth, safety and protection of the community. DOCEP provides information so consumers and traders can exercise their rights and meet their obligations. DOCEP also reviews laws regulating the trading marketplace. DOCEP works with the community to ensure high standards of safety and protection for workers and consumers.
From Thursday 1st January 2009 the "Department of Consumer and Employment Protection" will now be known as the Department of Commerce.
