Petrol, diesel & LPG prices

Just like most consumer goods in Australia, competition in the market determines the price we pay for fuel. It is important to know that the ACCC does not set fuel prices, but it does closely monitor the retail prices of unleaded petrol, diesel and automotive LPG in Australia’s capital cities and in around 180 country towns. The ACCC uses this information to examine the competitiveness of retail fuel prices in the interests of consumers.

Where there is sufficient evidence that a business has misled or behaved in an anti-competitive way to the detriment of consumers, the ACCC can take action in the courts, under the Competition and Consumer Act. The ACCC has taken action against businesses to protect consumers where there has been evidence of illegal conduct in the Australian fuel industry.
