Emerging professions

The ACCC is aware of a push from some occupations within various industries (such as natural medicine practitioners in the health industry) to be recognised as a discrete and new/emerging profession. The ACCC’s interest in this area is to ensure that such occupations do not arrange or implement their services in an anti-competitive, unconscionable or misleading or deceptive way. This might include any legislative arrangements such as those pertaining to the registration or recognition of practitioners and the conduct of individual practitioners, groups of practitioners or their member associations. Any regulation should be no more restrictive than is necessary to provide a net public benefit, for instance maintain necessary safety and quality standards.
