Buying energy from an onseller

Date published: 18th October 2012

The Customer Framework includes the National Energy Retail Law, National Energy Retail Rules and National Energy Retail Regulations. Together, these Laws and Rules set out key protections for energy customers and the obligations on businesses selling energy. The Retail Law requires that anyone onselling energy to customers must either hold a retailer authorisation or a valid exemption. Onsellers include owners or managers of caravan parks, retirement villages and residential landlords or bodies corporate that own or manage residential buildings.

This pamphlet explains your rights when you purchase energy from an onseller. The  exempt selling framework commenced in the Australian Capital Territory on 1 July 2012.
