Summary
The Australian Tyre Industry Council seeks authorisation for a proposed national voluntary Tyre Stewardship Scheme to promote greater recycling of tyres.

Among other things, the scheme proposes to require its members to deal only with other members of the scheme (where possible) and impose a levy on the sale of tyres in Australia (proposed to be $0.25 per passenger car tyre equivalent) or an equivalent membership fee, to fund the operation of the scheme.

Please refer to the 'Application' link below for further information about the scheme.

On 19 December 2012 the ACCC issued a draft determination proposing to authorise the Scheme for 5 years. The ACCC invites submissions in response to the draft determination.
