Contacting the ACCC

Making a complaint or inquiry

The ACCC's focus is to ensure that businesses do not make misleading claims linking price increases to the carbon price. The ACCC can act against businesses who contravene the Act.

The ACCC’s role does not include formally monitoring, setting or restricting price rises.

When to contact the ACCC

You should contact the ACCC if you are concerned that the impact of the carbon price has been misrepresented or overstated in relation to goods or services. This may be a claim made to you as a consumer or, if you are a business, by one of your suppliers.

Remember, it’s ok for a business to indicate that their prices have gone up as a result of the introduction of the carbon price, provided any such claim is truthful and has a reasonable basis.

The ACCC is unable to assist you with specific policy information or calculations in relation to the carbon price. General guidance for consumers and businesses is provided in our range of carbon publications.
